ACDA Drought Initiative, save water.
Your Air Conditioning system produces water from the indoor fan coil unit whenever it runs in cooling mode.
Small Split Systems produce as much as one (1) litre of water an hour, and larger units up to four (4) litres an hour.
Large 5 to 6 HP Ducted Systems can produce six (6) litres of water an hour.
*Water collected from a Multi Split air conditioning system that collects up to 20 litres of water a night.
Split Systems: You can do this yourself for Split Systems or have an A.C.D.A. Member provide this service.
Ducted Systems: We recommend that Ducted Systems be done professionally as it is more complicated but produces a significant quantity of water.
WHAT TO DO WITH THE WATER
- Run it to a water storage tank
- Water your garden
- Top up your pond / pool
- Wash the car
HOW MUCH WATER CAN SYDNEY SAVE?
If all the homes air conditioned by the Aircraft Noise Insulation Project, around 1,600 homes, collected their water this summer, they alone would be able to fill around 20 backyard swimming pools.
Sydney has hundreds of thousands of air conditioning systems installed and could collect millions of liters of water a year for free.
When installing a new air conditioning system ask your A.C.D.A. Member about this opportunity to install the drain, so you can collect the condensate water. A small cost could be a huge $ and environmental savings.
